About IPv6 Task Force

The IPv6 Task Force Forum came as the outcome of the IPv6 Project that was introduced by the Communications and Information Technology Commission as part of the Internet Services Development Projects undertaken by the CITC. The Commission sponsored the establishment of the Task Force that convened its first meeting on July 30, 2008.

Currently, the Task Force members, in addition to the CITC, include ICT Service Providers and the consulting arm of the Task Force Devoteam.

Due to conflicting with Saudi schools midyear vacation, we have rescheduled IPv6 task force 8th meeting from February 15th 2010 to March 17th 2010. The meeting will be held in “Holiday Inn Al Qasr”, Riyadh.

IPv6 Provider Independent (PI) Assignment Request is Available From RIPE NCC

RIPE NCC members (LIRs) and Direct Assignment Users can now request an IPv6 PI Address Space from the RIPE NCC.

PI Address Space (PI-addresses) offer the end-user the opportunity to change service providers without changing addresses, and in particular to use multiple service providers at once in a multi-homed configuration

RIPE Launched an IPv6 Information Portal “ IPv6 Act Now”

RIPE NCC launched an IPv6 information portal “ IPv6 Act Now” www.IPv6ActNow.org . IPv6 Act Now is a one stop website that explains IPv6 in terms that everyone can understand and provides a variety of useful information aimed at promoting the global adoption of IPv6.

The website is for anyone with an interest in IPv6, including network engineers, company directors, law enforcement agencies, government representatives and civil society.

The website also includes contributions from other Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) and industry partners.

Mobily and Bayant connected to IPv6 and provide IPv6 connectivity to its cusotmers

During the 6th IPv6 task force meeting (17th of May 2009), Mobily and Bayant announced that they are now connected to a Tier-1 IPv6 provider, and offer an IPv6 connectivity to its customers without any extra cost.

This announcement marks a major milestone on Saudi Arabia IPv6 strategy, by providing an IPv6 service by a facility based provider.
